San Antonio…(June 26, 2012) Methodist Healthcare and Broadway Bank officials gathered today to officially open San Antonio’s newest office building: Metropolitan Methodist Gateway. Located at 1100 McCullough at Interstate-35, the three-story building is a beautiful addition to the downtown area and represents a true gateway to Metropolitan Methodist Hospital, a campus of Methodist Hospital, and its two other medical office buildings nearby. The celebration included a traditional ribbon cutting ceremony and elegant reception planned for nearly 200 guests.
Broadway Bank became the building’s first tenant when it moved its Downtown Banking Center to the new location in April. The bank leases most of the first floor building which is owned by Methodist Healthcare. “Soon after branch banking was approved, Broadway Bank established its Downtown Banking Center to serve the downtown area. This new facility marks more than 20 years of continued commitment to providing local residents, business and medical professionals with a full-service banking facility, and now a community room for small business and community related events,” said Jim Goudge, chairman and CEO of Broadway Bank. “We are very pleased to be a part of the continued growth and progress of our downtown community in conjunction with Methodist Healthcare.”
“We are proud and excited to officially open the Metropolitan Methodist Gateway building. You hear a lot about the River Walk Extension. So when we had our groundbreaking ceremony here one year ago, we officially declared this project and Metropolitan’s campus as part of the Northward Extension of downtown San Antonio. We hope residents and visitors agree that this Gateway building is a great addition to Tobin Hill and downtown,” said Jaime Wesolowski, president and CEO, Methodist Healthcare. “We already have two thriving Medical Office Buildings in this area. And we recently announced our plans to begin a new expansion project at the hospital that will include a 50-bed intensive care unit to further meet the needs of our community.”
“The Gateway building features Hill Country stone and a gun metal roof with deep overhangs. It blends well with the culture of San Antonio but maintains its own identity with many avant-garde features. The entry way is bright and cheerful with a floating cloud ceiling that extends upward to the second floor,” said Malcolm Chesney of Chesney, Morales & Associates Architects, the building’s designers. “Special lighting features were designed so that after dark the building has a luminous, attractive glow.”
The project’s general contractor was Koontz-McCombs. Project Control of Texas served as project managers.
